Cookie Policy

LAST UPDATED: APRIL 2026 · EFFECTIVE: APRIL 2026

In plain terms: We use very few cookies. We don't run advertising or tracking. We store your cookie preference in your browser's local storage. Google Fonts may make a network request to Google's servers when you load our pages.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by a website. They allow websites to remember information about your visit — such as your preferences — across page loads and sessions.

We also use localStorage (a browser storage mechanism, not a cookie in the traditional sense) to remember your cookie consent preference. localStorage data is not transmitted to our servers.

2. Cookies We Use

3. Essential Cookies (Always Active)

The mf_cookie_consent localStorage entry is essential for the cookie consent mechanism to function. Without it, the consent banner would appear on every page visit. This is not transmitted to our servers and is stored only in your browser.

We do not set any persistent tracking cookies. Our subscription form uses a direct API call (no cookies) to our Beehiiv newsletter processor.

4. Third-Party Cookies: Google Fonts

We load web fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com). This results in your browser making a request to Google's servers, which may include your IP address. Google may set cookies as part of this process.

You can prevent this by using a browser extension that blocks Google Fonts, or by using a browser with aggressive font caching (many modern browsers cache fonts after the first load).

See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how they process this data.

5. Newsletter Subscription

If you subscribe to DISPATCH, your email is passed to Beehiiv via a server-side API call. Beehiiv may set cookies if you visit their platform directly. Our subscription form does not set any cookies on mayfly.wiki.

6. Your Cookie Choices

You can review and change your cookie preferences at any time:

You can also manage cookies through your browser settings:

Blocking all cookies may affect the functionality of our consent banner.

7. Do Not Track

We respect the Do Not Track (DNT) browser signal. If your browser sends DNT, we do not activate any optional analytics or marketing tools.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we introduce new cookies or tracking tools, we will update this policy and, where required, seek fresh consent.
